Cala Mayor
Cala Mayor is one of the oldest purpose-built tourist destinations on Mallorca. The resort surrounds the large beach of the Cala Mayor bay, which has given the resort its name. The beach is located at the bottom of the valley and the busy urban area with hotels and restaurants is build on the hillsides surrounding the beach. The main road of the resort, Avinguda de Joan Miro, is a busy road that goes along the coastline of the resort with good public transportation connections. Cala Mayor is only a short bus ride away from Palma de Mallorca centrum, Porto Pi harbor where large cruise ships dock and within walking distance of the Porto Pi shopping center, while to the South Cala Mayor borders with the lovely resort of Illetas.
The hotels in Cala Mayor are quite high buildings and many of them have an amazing seaview to the Bay of Palma. Right next to the Playa Cala Mayor and five star Hotel Nixe Palace there is great place to see how the resort looks like from a bird's eye view. This amazing viewpoint is located on a hill at the top of about hundred steps offering great views to the neigbouring resorts like Illetas, Palma Nova and Magaluf.

Getting Around in Cala Mayor
There are good bus connections in Cala Mayor and public transportation is a great way to get around the resort and to reach neigbouring resorts. The busses go frequently along the main road Avinguda de Joan Miro. For example the bus number 106 is an easy way to access Palma de Mallorca or the other nearby resorts like Palma Nova and Magaluf. Bus line number 3 takes you to the closest resort of Illetas and to its beautiful beaches.
Rental car is another quick way to move around the island but it is good to know that the traffic in Cala Mayor and in Palma de Mallorca is quite busy and it might be difficult to find parking space especially in Cala Mayor during the high tourist season. Walking is always a good option to move around the resort if you are fit enough to climb the hillsides of the valley.

Shopping in Cala Mayor
Cala Mayor is only a few bus stops away from Palma de Mallorca which is the capital of Balearic Islands and it is a real paradise for shopping offering large department stores like El Corte Inglés, shopping centers and all kinds of fancy boutiques along the shopping streets and small walking streets. The closest shopping center to Cala Mayor is the shopping center called Porto Pi which is within walking distance of the resort.
Restaurants in Cala Mayor
There are many fast food restaurants and a variety of cafes and bars serving tapas and other snacks along the main road. On the side streets there are also ala Carte restaurants on a bit more quiet locations. If the restaurants in the resort aren't enough for your needs, you can always take a bus or a taxi to the Palma de Mallorca. All the restaurants of Palma are only a few minute taxi drive away from Cala Mayor.
