Sóller

Sóller

Sóller is an old and idylic town located in a beautiful valley on the Northwest coast of Mallorca. The town is situated about three kilometers inland from Port de Sóller and it is easily accessed from Palma de Mallorca through a tunnel for a small fee. A more memorable way to visit Sóller is on board the old train - Ferrocarril de Sóller - that was established in 1912. The train still retains its original character. The railway links Sóller with the city of Palma De Mallorca making several trips per day.

Places to visit in Sóller

One of the most impressive sights in Sóller is the church designed by a student of the world famous Spanish architect Gaudí, located at the central plaza of the town. The church is open for the public but it is closed during the siesta hours in the afternoon.

The central plaza of Sóller is a beautiful place for having a break and for enjoying some tapas. There are many nice tapas restaurants and cafes around the plaza in beautiful surroundings.

Walking around the old and narrow streets of Sóller is also a great way to explore and experience the beauty of the town. There are lovely small gardens with lemon trees and flowers along the streets and the traffic is so quiet that you can just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere for a while. If you enjoy longer walks in the nature, you can go for a hiking excursion to the Tramuntana mountains. Mallorcamuntanya offers guided hiking excursions with 6 different route options to choose from.

At the train station of Ferrocarril de Sóller there are free art exhibitions. This summer (2008) there is an art exhibition which is displaying art works of Joan Miro and another exhibition displaying over 50 ceramic works by Picasso.

You can also visit Port de Sóller with the tram that starts from the train station. There are many great seafood restaurants and some nice beaches in Port de Sóller for example and the tram ride is a nice experience in itself.
